ISO 20022
ISO 20022 is the open international standard for financial messaging, defining XML-based message types — pacs, pain, camt and others — with rich, structured data models. In payments it replaces the legacy SWIFT MT format, and from 15 November 2026 its postal addresses must be fully structured or hybrid in newly initiated cross-border payments.
How ISO 20022 works in practice
Usage guidelines profile the standard for each channel: CBPR+ for cross-border correspondent banking, HVPS+ for RTGS systems, IP+ for instant payments, and the EPC rulebooks for SEPA. The address rules those schemes enforce are consolidated in ioNova’s structured address mandate guide.
